11 things you don’t know about digital media strategist, Tunny Ogunnowo

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Tunny Ogunnowo, an award winning digital marketing expert and lead strategist at Absolute Hearts Media.

ADMARP: Did you choose marketing, or marketing chose you?

Tunny: I would say marketing chose me. So being here was an evolution process for me, it is something I evolved into, though I have always loved the (digital) media but I didn’t choose to go into marketing. Far back in 2012, I used to manage a blog and i devised means to drive traffic to the blog.

I normally say ‘one of the best ways to learn Digital Marketing specifically is through blogging’. Blogging drives you into SEO, Email Marketing, Social Media Marketing and you might even begin to find strategies to promote your blog offline.. So I basically was just following the path that blogging was leading me into.

ADMARP: What is your greatest weakness?

Tunny: Haa. That’s got to be my mouth. I can talk for Africa, I can say and ‘un-say’, though now I have more control over it.

ADMARP: What is the idea of you people have that is quite contrary to who you really are?

Tunny: I think that is now changing anyway, but people normally see me in my small body and small-boy face and assume I am gentle, don’t talk much, naive and even sometimes timid but I am the complete opposite of all that. I can be in a place and be the one talking the most, I can be in a party and be the life of the party. So when people see me ‘behaving’ like an extrovert they go ‘really? with this your small body?’

ADMARP: What can you describe as the most groundbreaking moment/period in your career journey?

Tunny: That was 2018, that was the year I had my first leap.

ADMARP: What is your favourite food?

Tunny: I don’t have a favourite anything. I don’t have a favourite food, colour or any of those things. I can only say I have foods I don’t eat. Some of the foods I love to eat are yam and egg, bread and egg, rice or spaghetti and correct stew but none is my favourite.

ADMARP: What food do you think is the most overrated?

Tunny: I am Yoruba but all swallow foods are overrated, trust me..

ADMARP: Tell us something, an unpopular opinion about marketing that you think people should embrace more?

Tunny: This is something I have been thinking about for a while. I really think Marketing is a science (not an art). Because come to think of it, Marketing also makes use of scientific procedures. Marketers make observation, ask questions, test hypothesis, etc.

ADMARP: If you weren’t a marketing expert, what would you have done differently in life?

Tunny: I would have either been an Economics, a Geographer. I remember I said I was gonna be an economics student right before my JSS3 and I studied Economics in the University. I didn’t follow through that path because after school Economics wasn’t gonna pay the bills. I used to also love Geography a lot but I could only study one course in school so I went for economics.

ADMARP: What state are you from?

The Gateway to Nigeria

ADMARP: What are you afraid of the most?

Tunny: Height

ADMARP: Who is your bestie in the industry?

Tunny: Ermm. I was bestie-less until recently I started calling Elizabeth Ogunseye my bestie and I think she sometimes calls me bestie too so yeah…lol.. Please don’t let her see this, she’ll think I’m famzing.
